We ran .5 out from Target, and .5 back; one walk break (too much talking by Keaton, led to a loss of of breath) and a stop to workout @ the Hunter Crossing neighborhood workout park (like the one in Halleck Park and Elmwood Park).

Pre-Race. Nightmare.
6:00 - I went to the subway, but must have just missed a train. Stood for 20 minutes waiting for the next one.
6:20 - Packed standing in a subway for 30 minutes or so
6:50 - Caught my scheduled 6:45 ferry to Staten Island. Finally got to sit.
7:20 - Arrive in Staten Island. Takes forever to disembark and then wait in a huge crowd to leave the port.
8:20 - Finally get on a bus to the start. My corral was to open at 8:10 and close at 9:00. Still feeling okay since it is not a long distance.
8:40 - Bus not moving
9:00 - Bus not moving, corral closed?
9:10 - Hop off bus and run to starters village.
9:20 - Stand in line to corral which I have been told closed on schedule for Wave 1.
9:30 - See them let somebody go through so I fight to the front and am allowed in. Now I have to fight my way to the front as everybody from Wave (regardless of corral) is making their way up the bridge.
9:35 - Make it the starting line. Oops, didn't have time to go to the bathroom
9:50 - Start - nearly 4 hours after I left my hotel and 2.5 hours on my feet.
The Race. Okay
Started out at 6:40 miles
Mile 4 - A shoe come untied
Mile 10 - Finally had to stop for a bathroom break
Mile 16 - Saw Debra at which point I still didn't know if I was going to have a strong finish like my last two marathons or grind to the finish.
Mile 20 - Knew it was going to be a grind.
Mile 24 - Tried to appreciate that this could be last sub 3 marathon as I ran it in.
This race ended being almost identical to Berlin 2012 in every regard, including the splits.
BE - 21:13, 20:56, 20:57, 21:02, 21:02, 21:05, 20:57, 21:42, 9:44 = 2:58:39
NY - 20:41, 20:47, 20:42, 21:16, 21:15, 20:35, 21:17, 22:07 9:42 = 2:58:22
Postrace - Awkward
After a loooooong walk and getting my swanky blue poncho, I found Debra. Many funny looks on the subway and Times Square as I walked back to the hotel. I was obviously the first marathoner all of these people had seen. They would see thousands more as the day went on.
The funniest thing was everybody wearing their medals long after the race was over. That night, tons of people who had showered and cleaned up, wore their medals out. That's not me, but at least I get it. However, what I didn't understand was everybody on Monday all over town and in the airport still wearing their medals. They're probably all wearing them at work today as well.

Me, Matt, and Greg on a chilly morn....Big time NYC recap from the Greger. He ran it as a training run with a charity group. Sounded way awesome. My legs were dead, and I felt pretty wimp-ville with these two who just ran NYC and had a 1:28 Halfsy. Ann told me this weekend that life stress leads to running pits....precisely!! :/
Today, Matt and I are headed to Elm Creek for some Burwell playoff football. Not sure where Elm Creek is located, but I will soon find out.
Happy BDay, Edie. Welcome to Master-Ville!! Good times.
Big Day in the USA. Go cast your ballot today. As scary as this election has been, the thought of living in a country where you don't have the right to share your opinion, is even scarier. It might not always seem that way, but we truly are so very fortunate. Go Vote.

To those of you that will be voting today, be safe. This may be the most important election of your life. Truly consider the importance of your pencil marks on a poorly-designed ballot. Some projections actually put Omaha into play with its single electoral vote, which means your vote may actually matter this cycle.

Always a great pleasure to run and chat with Carl! Topics included the Halfsy (congrats to Carl and all other runners), the Zakaras twins and my weekend in Chicago.
Song of the day: "Members Only" by Sheryl Crow. Almost forgot how fun this song was; from her '98 "Globe Sessions" CD.
