I'm happy with today's race given the groin/adductor issue I struggled with all week following my 10 miler. I found my LRC teammate Brian Kelley and tracked him for a couple miles and that felt pretty good. First three miles are around the edge of farm fields (tall grass and uneven footing) and gravel roads and were not particularly challenging (6:56/6:40/6:08). Then we head into the woods and Brian gapped me and I never caught him again. I could see him and teammate Jason ahead and they never got too far until the last mile but could still see them at the finish which is a big improvement over last year. The creek crossings were not particularly tough but what really put me into oxygen debt was climbing the steep banks (aided by ropes tied to fence posts at the top) immediately after coming out of the water with frozen feet. The last mile consists of some long steep uphills where I just went to my arms as much as I could and hoped my legs would follow. Miles 4 to 7: 6:25/7:03/7:44 (ouch), 6:50 (a little rally to finish). Finished 2nd to Brian in 55-59 and our team was first. We had hoped to break it up into 2 teams and take both spots but the RD didn't get it done. Too bad, we would have done it. No. 18 in the books and not too badly beaten up. Groin is going to be sore in the morning and feet hurt a bit. No full results posted yet.

Stayed at the Sterling Suites so I could pick up packets for the team and get a shower after the race. About a mile warmup and a little less cool down but at least I was still moving with only moderate groin pain.

Most of the snow went north of us but we have a covering. Thought it would be icy from the rain but it isn't.
