I was really happy with this race. I went in not expecting much since I hadn't trained much. I also decided that I would take out at a comfortable pace and then see what I had left. So, that is how it went. I felt great at the end of the race, and I have never passed so many people - especially down the home stretch of 10th Street. That stretch has always been my worst part of the race, so it was actually fun to finish with some energy left. I also ended up passing the two women in my age category (45-49) in the last 1/2 mile or so. I did not expect that at all. Here are my splits (7:38, 7:36, 7:38, 7:39, 7:43, 7:26, 7:22, 7:32, 7:32, 7:03, 7:10, 7:06, 6:38, 1:13). If I do another race, I might try that again.

With my gout last month and a bit of a flare up late last week, I decided to walk/run with my daughter Erin. Her ankles were giving her some pain so it was mostly walking. My shins are sore, felt better when we did pick up the pace. Got warm when we hit the trail but overall not too bad. Good to see lots of friends, congrats to all. By the time I got back to Omaha to get Kim, got cleaned up, we got back to Lincoln in time to watch the last three innings of the Husker baseball game. Got to see the best part with a walk off win. Good weekend, can't wait to do it again.

Probably not my best decision. Went hard for 10k and then backed off. Blisters were coming on strong by mile 8. That's what I get for wearing shoes that are too small and that I've never raced in. Still a course PR, but I haven't run the half here for a long time.

Ran with Wasse up until the turn around, but burned too much effort into the wind. He kept on as he is such a machine. I kept a decent pace until 22, but the bottom dropped out and I rode the death train the rest of the way in. I will say this. As my first time on the Lincoln full course, and minus the tough weather conditions, the second half really wasn't as bad as I though it was going to be. Great to see so many friends today.

That was a rough one today! Started out alright and was on my planned pace until just after mile 8. I had gone home not feeling well on Thursday. I had rested until the race, but hadn't recovered enough. Add in the heat and multiple other elements and it just got to be a struggle. Did a lot of walking the last 4 miles, but as the lady at Trader Joe's said when she saw me hobbling. "You just ran 13 miles! Very few people can say that!"

Pretty satisfied with effort today. Found Daniel Haegerlof early and hung on to him through 2 miles but lost him at the aid station and couldn't close the gap. Ran with Brian Miller for the last mile but got edged at the line. Both of those guys had run long (Daniel-London Mar & Brian 100K trail within the last couple of weeks). 5:46/6:13/5:58 and the toughest mile is definitely no. 2. Ran smart and had just about emptied the tank by the finish. Age-grades to 15:41. Felt that old pain in the Gracilis after. Need to get back to the physical rehab routine.

Well, ^that obviously wasn't the case today.

Last week, I really felt the spirt of that Andrea's mantra, "i can, i will" coursing through me. I knew, since I was healthy enough, that I'd be running the full. Because I can.

It wasn't pretty, by a long shot; but, I earned that medal today. Hot and Windy (because Lincoln) made for poop running weather; I just tried to keep hydrated and cool (ice, I went through SO MUCH ice).

Shout out to all who got to see me today.
You're so damn lucky. ;)

Really felt great today. Ran with the 3:15 marathon pacer's for most of the race. They got a little ahead of me on the trail before mile 8 but I was able to catch back up and pass them before the 1/2 split. Never felt like I was struggling today. Best 1/2 out of the three I've done so far this year. It was great to see everyone and to get in on the group photo.

Legs never felt good, but I was able to find a rhythm I could handle and kept plugging away. Ran negative splits thru 11, then held serve the rest of the way. Usual Suspects hit me on Ave O but was able to talk them off the ledge by slowing a bit. I ran a couple of minutes slower than the VDOT had me based on my recent 10K, but I have rarely hit those marks for the longer races, so overall I'm happy with this one. I ran exactly 30 minutes faster than Good Life Halfsy last Nov. so in that light its good.
