Back to the pool to rest the legs. Mostly pull. Felt better in the pool than I thought I would with the time away.

So, I've been MIA. Here's it, in a nutshell.
I hurt my hip on my last long run two weeks before the race. 12 miles. Felt it 4 miles in. Continued the rest of the run at an 815 pace. Didn't run again but only twice before LNK. Hurt the entire time both times. I was devastated. Beyond devastated. Lots of boo hooing. Lots of how could this happen when I had trained so well. Lots of hiding under a rock. Lots of indecision. Lots of advice. LOTS of advice. I didn't want to tell anyone, or talk to anyone. I wanted to run away. I'm not kidding. So, I had no idea what to do.....not run, see how I felt for Fargo. Run, and kill my hip. Cry about it. A lot. The week leading up to the race I was a mess. Capital MESS. I was not fueling for a marathon, and even under fueling because I wasn't running, and didn't think I could run more than 3 miles. Saw Magic Hands four times, Adam, and of course, Matt to fix me. Talked to TONS of people and got TONS of different opinions. Decided the night before to line up, see how far I could go. I was banking on a 5K. I had phone numbers pinned to my shorts of friends along the way who were waiting on standby to come and fetch me. Lined up with a little bit of steely resolve that came from I have no idea where. Abby, who I ran with, told me, keep it calm the first half. Seriously, I told her I wouldn't make it that far. But, I started, and I felt amazing. I could feel the hip. But, it was doable. And I was feeling so in control, I went with it. The first half was the most confident I had EVER felt in any race. I was keeping in control and right on pace. Right in front of my pacer. My giraffe. My Abby. I thought, shit, I might just do this after all. There was no doubt in my mind to keep going after the half. I was going to do this. Turned on to Antelope Valley, hate that sucker, and felt the wind. Felt the heat. Abby said, you stay on my hip and then you GO the last five miles. Ok. Let's do it. Then, the heat. Then, the wind. Then, the sun. Then....the hip. I've run this in my sleep, but all of a sudden I could not go. I had been fueling properly during the race. People handing me the fuel the whole way. But, the salt. I sucked on ONE salt tab the entire way. One. :/ Boom. I was covered in salt. Not sweating. Dry and a bone. And completely white with salt. Troubles. Mile 16, I was done. My hip locked. I saw Ben. He had told me not to run today. Not to do it at all. That it would be dumb. Well, when I saw him, I saw his look. And I knew. Be smart. Then I saw Bryan. Then I saw Eddie. I asked him where Matt was. Behind him. Crap. I knew I was done. Saw Matty. He said, babe, be careful. Alrighty. Then, saw my mom, my dad, my Molly. At the top of Holmes Lake. Just where they were supposed to be. Cheering. On the way back, I knew. I had to pull the plug. My goal is not to finish Lincoln in four hours. My goal is Boston. And I had to be smart. For the first time. I did. I stopped. 20 miles. Done. On pace for 16 of them. Then done. My dad hugged me. My mom cried because she knew this race meant everything to me. My Molly said, Mom, I'm so proud of you. And you know, I was proud to. I never thought I would make it that far. I doubted myself that last week. And it got me. I didn't trust my training, my strength, or my heart. My training was the bomb. I hit it. It was just maybe too long. I think 12 weeks is good. My fitness is there. 12 weeks. Golden. Ben texted me and asked me what I learned. I learned I'm capable of so much more than I thought. I can do this. No doubt. Love this process.

Thanks to all. My friends are what kept me going. Thank God for them. And my girls. They kept telling me I could do it, I just didn't believe them. And Matt. Put up with me for the past two weeks--definitely not fun. So proud of him. We will get to Boston. Not a doubt. And WassE!! A highlight before the race! He said stuff that made me so hopeful. The future is bright!! I'm super pumped. Texts already have started. Des Moines. Great. Love Iowa.

Sorry about the novel recap. Great work to all you Lincoln runners. Loved seeing everyone in my hometown.

Now back at work. Life goes on. Happy Tuesday. :)

Run got cut short when an accident happened in front of me. Two of my students, thank God they walked away unscathed. I've never taken that downhill so fast before to get to them and that screeching and the sound of that impact is one I'll never forget. Second time we had to call the police today, first time was earlier this afternoon when my neighbor showed up in our driveway with her kids because she had just hit her gas line. Whole street got closed down. Busy evening in Bloomfield, USA.

Coaching my 6th grade pole vaulter. She shocked at last Friday's T&F day taking the 100 and 2nd in the 400, "Caitlin, where did all that speed come from", amazing her teachers. Paces today included 200, 400, and introduced 800. I actually got a little gassed. What fun!

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Lincoln runners! Loved seeing you and sending you off at the start! Lots of good inspiration for me to be drawn from you all on that day! :)

Song of the day: "Uncharted" by Sara Bareilles. I came very close to meeting her in New York on my 50th birthday. She is appearing in a limited engagement of the musical "Waitress", of which she wrote the music. Wish I would have known this when I booked the trip. Anyway, she was walking up 8th Avenue, on her way to the show. She was talking on her phone, then a manager or security guy led her into the side theatre entrance. Missed it, oh well. The 2 shows I saw in NYC this last trip were "Bandstand" (new and excellent) and "A Bronx Tale" (not bad, but doesn't translate well from the movie). Now in hindsight, I wish I would have seen "Waitress" in place of "A Bronx Tale".
